GMI Construction Group builds public sector portfolio with four places on Crescent Construction Framework

GMI Construction Group has secured places on all four lots it bid for under the new Crescent Construction framework, strengthening its ability to deliver public-sector projects across the Midlands and North of England.

The appointments cover two NEC4 contract routes in each region, NEC4 Engineering and Construction Contract with Professional Services Contract and NEC4 Engineering and Construction Contract with Design and Build.

Operated by Crescent Purchasing Consortium (CPC), the framework provides public-sector organisations with a compliant and streamlined route to procure new-build, refurbishment and wider capital works projects.

Unlike many construction frameworks, the lots secured by GMI are not divided into project value bands. This gives the business the opportunity to support clients across a broad range of project sizes and creates a flexible new route to market throughout GMI’s established regional operating area.

The framework can be accessed by education providers and organisations across the wider public sector, supporting projects for schools, colleges, universities, local authorities, blue-light services and other public bodies.

GMI’s appointment builds on the continued growth of its public-sector portfolio. More than one in four projects currently being delivered by the business are for public-sector clients, representing 26 per cent of GMI’s live construction projects.

These projects span the education, further education, blue-light, hotel, retail and leisure sectors and have been secured through a combination of construction frameworks, direct awards and traditional competitive tenders.

The Crescent Construction framework will provide another important route through which GMI can engage with existing clients, develop new public-sector relationships and become involved earlier in the planning and development of capital projects.

Stuart Holmes, Group Strategy Director at GMI Construction Group, who leads the company’s frameworks and public-sector strategy, said: “Securing a place on every lot we targeted is a fantastic result and an important step in the continued growth of our public-sector business. Our appointment across the North and Midlands aligns directly with GMI’s regional structure and supports our long-term strategy to build a balanced and resilient pipeline of public and private-sector work.

Darren Lowe, Managing Director at Crescent Purchasing Consortium (CPC) added:

“As a not-for-profit charity focused on supporting the education sector, the CPC is committed to ensuring that the value created through our frameworks goes beyond procurement efficiency. Our work enables us to reinvest in initiatives that support SEND, Wellbeing and Absenteeism across the education sector. To date we have designated for re-investment £2.7m of funding for giving back initiatives. Strengthening member services and supporting institutions to make the most of their resources is a key driver for Crescent Purchasing Consortium.

“Working with suppliers who understand the needs of the public-sector, and the wider social impact needed, we can continue to deliver frameworks that not only meet immediate project requirements but also provide a significant contribution to our wider charitable objectives, and the communities our members serve.”

The Crescent Construction framework supports both new-build and refurbishment projects and provides clients with a choice of procurement and call-off routes, including direct award and further competition.
